Machame Route
The compressed Machame itinerary for fit trekkers who already have altitude experience and limited time.
Six days covers the same spectacular Machame trail but merges the Barranco and Karanga stages into one longer day. It suits climbers who have been above 4,000m before and want the shortest scenic route to Uhuru Peak.
Registration at Machame Gate, then a rainforest trek beneath giant heather and colobus monkeys to the first camp.
A steep morning climb out of the forest onto the moorland ridge with the first full views of Kibo.
Classic climb-high sleep-low acclimatisation day via the 4,600m Lava Tower before descending into the Barranco Valley.
A long day: the Barranco Wall scramble, the Karanga Valley and on across alpine desert to base camp.
Midnight departure for Stella Point and Uhuru Peak at sunrise, then a long descent through the moorland to Mweka.
Final rainforest descent, crew tipping ceremony and summit certificates, then transfer to your hotel.
